Dell's Round Barn 2

Dell's Round Barn 2

This gorgeous round barn is just off the road in Dell, on Hwy P just next to Grandma’s Attic, a fun resale shop. The round barns of Vernon County, purportedly the highest number of round barns in any county in the U.S., were designed and built by a freed slave named Algie Shivers. He designed them for ergonomic purposes; the cows all faced towards the center, so that feed could be dropped into just one spot to feed them, the milkers would go around the outside of the circle to milk the cows. John the owner was kind enough to allow me to photograph his barn multiple times, whenever it was best to shoot.

There is a little crick running through the property that can easily be jumped over. It has a small pool, perhaps 6 feet by 12 feet long that I caught the reflection of the barn in. The night I photographed this shot it was so humid that three-quarters of the images were a big white cloud! I’m lucky that I got enough serviceable images to make this image!

Why Metal Prints?

In my more than twenty-five years of being a commercial photographer I have seen images printed on almost every single substrate imaginable. And in that time I have never seen prints that look as stunning as these aluminum prints. They come alive in a way that I did not think possible. As one gallery owner I showed these to exclaimed, “It is like looking out a window!” They are truly unique in the way they shine when well lighted. So when you buy one of these prints, please make sure to light them generously!
